By Joene Hendry, Contributing Writer Esophageal Tracheal Combitube (ETC) minimized time without chest compressions during simulated resuscitation of ventricular fibrillation CPR. Compared with tracheal intubation (TI), airway placement with ETC required a median 26.5 seconds less time, reported Benjamin N. Abo and colleagues at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine in Pennsylvania, which resulted in a median 8.5 fewer seconds of no chest compressions by participating paramedic teams. Times to complete other tasks intravenous placement, d rug delivery or delivery of fourth defibrillator shock did not differ with ETC or TI use.
