Best Practices in Emergency Services is independently owned and operated.
Its publisher, John Becknell, is a leading authority and speaker on EMS who has served on numerous national panels. He is the former Editor-in-Chief of JEMS and the author of Medic Life: Creating Personal Success in EMS, and The Communicating Manager: Listening So Medics Will Talk and Talking So Medics Will Listen. John served as an ALS provider for 17 years in urban, suburban and rural settings, where he worked as an EMT, Paramedic, Supervisor and Flight medic. In his spare time, he writes both creative non-fiction and short stories.
Editor Lauren Simon is a veteran journalist who has been published in Best Practices in Emergency Services, Every Second Counts, JEMS, EMS Magazine, Fire/Rescue and numerous healthcare trade journals. Her writing credits outside of emergency services include USA Today, Orange Coast, The Sun, San Diego Union Tribune and other newspapers and magazines. She also is an award-winning playwright and book author.
